Keystone Trucking Nationals Chutes Out Recap
Hurst, Ortiz & Nevis Score International Wins at the Trucking Nationals

By: Billy Kleinspehn

Fresh off the record-breaking 40th Reading NHRA Nationals and the debut of Hot Rod Drag Week, the third Saturday of September at Maple Grove Raceway was all about one thing: trucks, trucks, and more trucks! The annual Keystone Trucking Nationals once again proved to be a truck lover’s paradise, featuring a skid pad showdown, a massive truck show, and—of course—pickup and big rig drag racing.

When the sun went down on Saturday, the winners’ circle celebration turned into an international affair:

  • Diesel Pickup: David Hurst picked up the win over Ernie Barkman.

  • Big Rig Bracket: Team Puerto Rico stood tall, with Luis Ortiz defeating TJ Buck for the victory.

  • Heads-Up Class: Florida’s Justin Nevis made his long trip worthwhile, scoring the win over Jason Faber.

The action didn’t stop there. Following the main events, the three class winners faced off in a special King of the Hillshootout. In the final, Big Rig champ Luis Ortiz lined up against Diesel Pickup winner David Hurst. The race was decided on the starting line, with Hurst turning on the red light, handing Ortiz his second win of the day.

With the chutes pulled on the 2025 edition, fans are already looking ahead to the 26th Keystone Trucking Nationals in 2026.

👏 Join us in congratulating this year’s winners and celebrating another incredible weekend of trucks at Maple Grove!

Race 4 The House Chutes Out Recap
Maple Grove Regulars Score Big in Rain-Delayed Charity Race

By: Billy Kleinspehn

One of the best parts of the racing community is the way it comes together like family—and one of the most rewarding traditions is giving back to a great cause.

After being delayed by rain in June, the popular Race 4 The House Charity Race was held at Maple Grove. What began in 2012 with just a handful of cars has now grown into a full stand-alone event that has raised more than half a million dollars for the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.

This year’s event continued the tradition, drawing a huge group of racers and fans. When the sun finally set on Sunday, several Maple Grove regulars stood proud in victory lane:

  • Super Pro: John Ripka claimed his first Super Pro victory, defeating former D1 Champion Brian Crump in the final.

  • Pro Eliminator: A JR Dragster alumni showdown saw former D1 Champion Douglas Fellenbaum Jr. edge out Jake “The Racer” Knarr.

  • Sportsman Eliminator: Bobby Pip powered his Ford past William Doney Jr.’s Chevy in a classic Ford vs. Chevy final.

  • Top Bike: In a family showdown, multi-time champion Derek Cesari got the better of his brother Jeff Cesari.

  • Daily Driver: John Smith earned the win over Bo Klein in a hard-fought final.

  • Pro Dial: D1 standout JT Schaffer scored the victory over Frank Falcon.

  • Dave Batchler Memorial Last Chance Race: Youth outpaced experience, as Emily Dittbrenner topped Frank Szeg in a Doorcar vs. Dragster final.

  • Back Seat Drivers: Another all-family final saw Tom Hand beat his brother Stephen Hand Jr. in their front-motor dragsters.

  • MANDRA: Maple Grove regular and multi-time MANDRA champion Mark Santee took the win over Mike Volpe.

Fans also enjoyed nostalgia exhibition runs from Mike Geroni and Bob Hill in their Fiats and JR Baum in his ’68 Dart.

20Ks Chutes Out Recap: Thimm, Northrop & Sisko Make Maple Grove History in Inaugural 20Ks at The Grove

By: Billy Kleinspehn

In its 63 years of operation, Maple Grove Raceway has been the stage for countless firsts in drag racing history — from the first side-by-side four-second passes to 300 mph Top Fuel runs.

The Grove has also been a landmark for women in NHRA history: Bunny Burkett became the first female to win in TAFC at a national event in 1986, Angelle Sampey scored the first female win in Pro Stock Bike in 1996, and Vonnie Mills broke through as the first woman to claim a Top Sportsman victory at a national event in 2022.

On Friday, August 23, 2025, three more women etched their names into Maple Grove history. Erin Thimm captured the Top Bulb Main Event win over Chris Wilson, while Jeanne Northrop claimed victory in the Bottom Bulb Main Event over Evan Poust — marking the first time two women have won main events on the same day at a big money bracket race at The Grove. Adding to the moment, Lindsey Sisko reached the final round of the Friday Night Gamblers, finishing runner-up to James DiCiacco. It was the first time in Maple Grove history that three women advanced to final rounds on the same day at a big money event.

Saturday’s action was just as thrilling, especially for Mustang fans, as three of the six main event finalists piloted Fords. In Top Bulb, Rob Weltner Jr. earned a popular victory over Howard Westbury. The Bottom Bulb Main Event featured an all-Mustang showdown, with Kevin Spencer scoring his second win of the season against Ray Barlow. Former D1 champion Shayne Beck also made a triumphant return, winning the Saturday Gamblers over Joe Barush.

Sunday wrapped up the weekend with more history and horsepower. In Top Bulb, Mike Barber drove his Mustang to victory over big money standout “Million Dollar” Steve Sisko. The Bottom Bulb Main Event showcased a battle of youth vs. experience, with young gun Matt Ricchezza defeating veteran Charles “Butch” Weinreich.

👏 Join us in congratulating all of our winners from the inaugural 20Ks at Maple Grove Raceway — a weekend packed with history, horsepower, and unforgettable moments!

Save Money & Buy Direct: NHRA Nationals Presented by Nitro Fish

Beware of Ticket Scams: Use The Only Trusted Source for NHRA Nationals Tickets

The NHRA Nationals presented by Nitro Fish is almost here, and excitement is building for one of the biggest events of the year at Maple Grove Raceway. But before you lock in your seat for September, we need to set the record straight: there is only one place you can trust to purchase your tickets — Sports Illustrated Tickets (SI Tickets).

We’ve noticed an alarming trend — countless websites claiming to sell tickets to the NHRA Nationals. The problem? Many of these sites are scamming fans, overcharging, or simply causing unnecessary stress when it comes to securing a seat. At Maple Grove Raceway, we take pride in providing the best possible experience for our fans, and that includes fair, honest ticket pricing.

Here’s what we’ve found:

  • Third-party sites are charging outrageous prices. In some cases, general admission tickets are listed for $140!

  • At Maple Grove Raceway, general admission starts at just $35.

  • If a ticket seems too expensive, it probably is.

The risks don’t stop at overpaying. If you purchase from an unapproved third-party seller and your ticket doesn’t scan at the gate, you will not be admitted until a valid ticket is purchased. That’s extra money out of your pocket and frustration you don’t need on race day.

How to avoid the headache:
✅ Always purchase your NHRA Nationals tickets directly through SI Tickets — the only trusted ticketing partner of Maple Grove Raceway.
✅ Ignore inflated prices from unofficial websites.
✅ When in doubt, visit our official Maple Grove Raceway website and follow the links to our verified ticket partner.

Don’t let a scam ruin your race weekend. Save money, save time, and guarantee your spot by buying directly from Sports Illustrated Tickets.

After nearly a month off, the stars of the ET Series returned to the House of Chaos for the second half of the season — and the final stretch in the battle to become a 2025 Maple Grove ET Series Champion.

In Jr. Dragster action, the season trend continued with a third different winner in as many races. This time, it was Zach Gale who joined the winners’ circle, defeating Charlotte Ecks in the final. Gale now joins Morgan Harp and Ecks as race winners in what’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive Jr. seasons yet.

In Super Pro Eliminator, it was Ray Fordyce III taking home the win in a classic Doorcar vs. Dragster final round, defeating big-money standout Jason Hoff.

Defending Sportsman Eliminator champion Charles “Butch” Weinreich pulled off a big accomplishment by reaching two finals in one day. He claimed the Sportsman win over Tim Ash, then made a run at a second trophy in Pro Eliminator. Butch came up just one round short, with former Jr. Dragster standout Joe Dedrick picking up his first career Pro win.

In Top Bike, defending track champion Vanderbilt Boyce Jr. notched his first win of the season with a final-round victory over Jeff Cesari.

The Mini Bike class brought extra fun to the night, with Gregory Mottas getting the win over Michael Grey.

Weekend Recap: Super Chevy Showdown 2025

Embley and Harvey Families Double Up, Weather the Storm, and Take Home Wins

The end of July in the Northeast usually means one thing: heat—and lots of it. But for diehard fans of the Bowtie brand, it means something even better: the annual Super Chevy Showdown at Maple Grove Raceway.

After one of the busiest Julys in recent memory, the Maple Grove staff closed out the month with this beloved tradition. First held in 1983, the Super Chevy Showdown has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the longest-running Chevy events in the country. Moving the race to the end of July last year has proven popular, with racers eager to add a Super Chevy title to their resumes.

This year’s action kicked off on Friday under scorching temperatures with a Test & Tune and a Gamblers Race. Unfortunately, heavy storms rolled in after the first round, cutting the Gamblers Race short. The remaining drivers split the purse and turned their focus to Saturday’s big show.

Saturday brought the iconic Super Chevy car show—hosted by Motorama Productions—and a bustling swap meet. The day started under windy, overcast skies, but racers and fans alike kept their fingers crossed for sunshine. Their wish was granted: after a quick passing shower, the sun broke through just in time for racing to begin.

With a rainy forecast threatening Sunday’s program, Maple Grove officials made the call to combine both race purses and run the entire event to completion on Saturday. When the sun set, several Maple Grove regulars were celebrating hard-earned wins in Victory Lane.

In Chevy Super, it was a rematch between Trish Witt and Michael Reginella—a repeat of last year’s Halloween race, where Trish couldn’t make the final call due to breakage, handing Michael the win. This time, Trish got her redemption and scored her first Super Chevy victory.

The 2025 edition will be remembered for double victories, starting with D1 standout Scott Embley, who drove Steven Dunn’s Camaro to a win over fellow Island Dragway star Jason Facarino in Chevy Pro. Just moments later, Embley jumped into his family’s iconic 1992 Blazer and completed the sweep, taking the Chevy Sportsman final over Maple Grove’s own Jason Renninger.

Another double victory came from the legendary David Harvey III. Dave took the win over JT Banks in Chevy Pro Dial, and claimed the Outlaw DOT final over Steve Kozak—two more trophies for the family mantel.

Wrapping up the bracket action was the Saturday Gamblers Race, which, unlike Friday’s rain-shortened edition, went the distance. Robert Bates Jr. drove his Chevy past Rich Wendler’s Mustang in a final-round brand rivalry, sealing the deal for the Bowtie crowd.

No Super Chevy Showdown is complete without some 300-mph jet action. This year, Dawn Perdue in Wicked Sensation and Neal Esposito in Jersey Attitude squared off in a thrilling best-of-two “battle of the sexes,” with each driver claiming one win.

Reflecting on this year’s event, Maple Grove Raceway GM Shane Sweigart shared:

“Super Chevy threw a few curveballs at us this year. We had to condense two days of racing into one and made the call to double the purse without raising the entry fee. Despite Friday’s storm and Saturday morning’s weather, our team stayed focused on running as many races as possible—and we did just that. The car show and swap meet were well attended, even with a slight drop Saturday morning due to the rain.”

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2025 Super Chevy Showdown! See you next year, Bowtie fans!

Geezers at the Grove Recap: Annual Nostalgia Race a Huge Success

When fans talk about the most anticipated events at Maple Grove Raceway, the NHRA Nationals, Super Chevy Showdown, and Night of Chaos are usually at the top of the list. But right alongside them is one of the most beloved throwback events on the calendar — Geezers at the Grove.

This special race, which began in 2002 as part of the track’s 40th anniversary celebration, has become an annual tribute to the golden years of drag racing on the famed quarter mile.

Despite on-and-off rain showers throughout the day, a huge crowd of racers and fans turned out for an action-packed day and night of racing.

In Nostalgia Super, it was a family affair, with Nick Reginella taking the win over his youngest son, Michael, in the final round.

Nostalgia Pro saw Roger Neimzcyk edge out Frank Smigiel for the victory.

In Nostalgia Sportsman, two Grove legends squared off, with former Division One champion Denny Renninger beating two-time bike track champion Kyle Gockley.

The Nostalgia Pro Dial final featured another Neimzcyk — this time Robert — who came up just short against Mike Moore.

Adding to the excitement, the popular 8.50 Index class saw Jonathan Delarosa pick up his second win in a week, defeating Ralph Rubino after also taking home the 8.50 class title at the Pan American Nationals.

One of the highlights of the event was the Nostalgia Funny Cars, which ran Chicago-style. The two quickest cars from the first round faced off in the final, where young Joe Pirrone’s Screaming Eagle took the win over Chris Massarella’s Total Insanity.

Several nostalgia clubs were also part of the show, including the East Coast Gassers, MANDRA, NETO, and the Back Seat Drivers.

The Back Seat Drivers class, featuring front-engine slingshot dragsters, saw John Schroeder take the win over Stephen Bowley.

In the MANDRA class, Maple Grove’s own Steve Dickey got the win over Tim Milliron.

The always-entertaining East Coast Gassers put on a show with their wild ‘60s-era gassers. Ed Linuy claimed the win over Jimmy Wheeler.

Rounding out the nostalgia classes, Gary Coleman won the NETO Nostalgia class, while Jeff Donnelly took top honors in NETO Comp.

Budget Brackets at the Grove Recap: Coleman and Donnelly Repeat in Sunday Finale

After the marathon that was Geezers at the Grove, several hundred racers stuck around for Sunday’s finale — Budget Brackets at the Grove. When the dust settled, several familiar names once again found themselves in the winner’s circle.

In Super Pro, 2012 co-champion Barry Sauders returned to form, taking the win over big-money standout Mike Barber.

Pro Eliminator saw Bill Colburn claim the win over Louie Burgese.

The Pro Dial final was one for the books, with Bob Bates Jr. and Dave Harvey Jr. battling it out — Harvey came out on top in a tight matchup.

Back for more action were the nostalgia groups, with MANDRA, NETO, and the East Coast Gassers joining the bracket fun for the second straight day.

In East Coast Gassers, Ed Links took home the win over Dave Fenzel.

Winning once in a weekend is tough enough — winning twice is something special. Both Gary Coleman (NETO Nostalgia) and Jeff Donnelly (NETO Comp) pulled off the impressive feat, each earning back-to-back victories, this time over Lou Tarasied.

In MANDRA, Tim Milliron made his second straight final but came up just short against Ray Bloom.
