East Coast Drag Racing Heritage Days
events set for July 2003……….
Mohnton, PA – Following the success of York US 30 Musclecar Madness at the York Fairgrounds in July 2002, Darwin Doll and Bill Stiles will team up with the folks from Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA (near Reading) to promote the heritage of East Coast Drag racing starting in 2003. Both entities held very successful nostalgia events in 2002 at their respective locations. The York US 30 Musclecar Madness event will again be held at the York Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday, July 11-12, 2003 and then descend to the historic raceway for the Geezers at the Grove nostalgia race, the next day, July 13th.
The York Expo Center, York Fairgrounds in York, PA is the location of the York US 30 Musclecar Madness show. York US 30 was the premier racing facility on the east coast in its day! On Friday, July 11, the doors open at 6:00 p.m. for the show closing at 10:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12th. Festivities will end at Maple Grove Raceway Sunday, July 13th. Gates open 8:00 a.m.
Prominent groups expected to participate at both include the East Coast Gasser Association, Mid-Atlantic Drag racing Association, Northeast Timing Organization, Northeast Classic Funny Car Group, Northeast Pro Street Shootout and Top 64 Super and Heavy eliminator bracket racers, plus a large array of Street Rods, Customs and classic cars.
In 2002, the nostalgia event at Maple Grove Raceway saw many racers from the past attend with a special 40th anniversary barbecue to greet them. Highlighting the event was 50’s and 60’s music by Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods and on track nostalgia racing action.
The East Coast Heritage Days celebration is consistent with our motto for the York US 30 Musclecar Madness show, which is dedicated to “Preserving our Performance Heritage” related Bill Stiles co-promoter of the York event “this weekend should provide all”!
