Dozens of Maple Grove Raceway’s best racers crowded the ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel Saturday night for the 51st annual Money Trail Awards Banquet.
Over $30,000 in cash, trophies and contingency awards was handed out during the ceremony to the top 48 drivers in the five Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail E.T. Series, Jr. Dragsters and the ATI Stock-Super Stock Shootout.
Dozens of racers, whether or not they were in the money, were on hand with friends and family. It’s a great tradition that Maple Grove management is looking to continue far into the future.
The season champions for the Money Trail Series had their turn in the spotlight as Lanny Werley (Gold Rush Trailers Super), Brock Moshier (Ciccarone Racing Products Pro), Paul Werner (P.C. Richard & Son Street), Cory Stuebner (Ray’s Yamaha Top Bike), Vincent Branca (Jr. Dragster) and Lee Risser (ATI Stock-Super Stock) were recognized in their respective classes. More >
Denny Renninger saved his best for last. The Leesport, Pa., racer was the Pro class winner Sunday as Maple Grove Raceway presented its annual National Dragster Challenge.
Even though the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail E.T. Series wrapped up its season on Labor Day weekend, several racers returned to The Grove for a chance to win a prestigious Wally trophy that features the likeness of NHRA founder Wally Parks. For just about any drag racer, earning one can be considered a career highlight.
Wallys were also handed out to Derrick Fox (Super), Tom Harhart (Street) and John Lippincott (Top Bike).
The Race 4 Ronald’s House charity race was also held, and nearly 60 drivers took part. The annual event put together by Denny Parisan from County Corvette of West Chester, Pa., benefits the Ronald McDonald House of Philadelphia.
Another charity event kicked off the weekend. The Humane Society of Berks County held its annual Walk for the Animals and Walktoberfest on Saturday, drawing thousands of animal lovers and their dogs. More >
Maple Grove Raceway will open the fall portion of its 2013 schedule with a couple of very different events this weekend.
On Saturday, the track will be silent as there is no racing scheduled. However, there will be plenty of action around the strip as the Humane Society of Berks County presents its annual Walk for the Animals and “Walktoberfest.”
Sunday will feature drag racing with the NHRA National Dragster Challenge E.T. bracket race, along with the Race 4 Ronald’s House charity race.
Gates will open Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Walk and “Walktoberfest” beginning at 11 and lasting through the afternoon. Events include a dog walk around the perimeter of Maple Grove’s racetrack, live bands, pet adoptions, vendors and dog contests. More >
Access Insurance Agency in Harrisburg has received a Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award for volunteer service with Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. The award includes a $2,000 grant for Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House on behalf of the agency.
“Safeco’s Make More Happen Awards celebrate volunteerism and our independent agent partners who help make things better for others through their time, resources and dedication,” Safeco President Matt Nickerson. “Safeco Insurance has a rich tradition of civic engagement, and our Make More Happen Awards are just one more way we help build stronger communities by supporting the efforts and causes that are important to our agents.”
Access Insurance Agency was selected for the award based on a photo and application demonstrating how volunteers make more happen for Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, which serves Philadelphia by supporting families of seriously ill children both emotionally and financially. More >
