Gary Simpers and his Comet station wagon won the E.T. Shootout at Maple Grove Raceway Sunday during the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals. A Pro E.T. driver in the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail Series, Simpers won the annual “golf cart” race over Jeffrey Burnley from the Top Bike class.
The winning pass was 10.617 seconds at 104.30 mph that was .14 over his dial-in. Burnley was a little slower off the starting line and ran 11.690 at 103.63 on his sled that was .25 over his dial.
As runner-up, Burnley won a 32-inch HD TV courtesy of P.C. Richard & Son.
The yellow golf cart won by Simpers was sponsored by D&G Golf Carts, Awesome Vinyl, Potty Queen and P.C. Richard & Son.
The field has been set for the Money Trail E.T. Shootout that will be held during the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals on Oct. 5-6:
- Gold Rush Trailers Super Eliminator: Mike Daniels, Don Mattson, Nick Daniels, Jack Grater.
- Ciccarone Racing Products Pro Eliminator: Paul Thimm Jr., Jeff Allebach, Curt Rubendall, Gary Simpers.
- P.C. Richard & Son Street Eliminator: Adam Werner, Dave Sciarretta, Dawn Helman, Joe McLaughlin.
- Ray’s Yamaha Top Bike: Allen Heilner, Joe Stuebner, Cory Stuebner, Bob Bechtel.
The winner receives the golf cart and the runner-up gets a 32-inch HD TV.

Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail E.T. Series members in the Super, Pro, Street and Top Bike categories were eligible. At each Money Trail event, the winners, runner-ups and semifinalists in those classes had their names entered into a special drawing box for each eliminator. The drawing was held at the season finale on Aug. 31.
All 16 names will then be placed into another drawing for qualifying positions at the event. The 16 racers will be placed onto a standard NHRA Sportsman ladder.
NHRA announced its 2014 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule today, which includes a return to racing Memorial Day weekend with the NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka, May 23-25.
Also in 2014, NHRA will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the biggest and most prestigious event in all of NHRA Drag Racing, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Labor Day weekend, Aug. 27-Sept. 1. Another tradition-rich event will celebrate its 50th anniversary: the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.). That race will again provide the stage for the season finale, Nov. 13-16.
