Dan Walleigh didn’t have to go too far from home to pick up a win Sunday.

The racer from Reading, Pa., came down to Maple Grove Raceway and took part in the ATI Performance Products Stock-Super Stock Series. In a 1970 AMX, Walleigh won the second of four scheduled races this summer and took home a check for $1,000 from the guaranteed purse.

Run in conjunction with the East Coast Stock-Super Stock Association, the series features four races in which drivers are welcome to enter a points fund. Two more races are scheduled for Aug. 24 and 25.

The top five finishers in points will be paid with the winner getting $1,000. They will be honored during the Money Trail Banquet in February 2014.

Walleigh certainly made big strides toward getting that additional grand. He advanced to the final with a quarterfinal win over Bryan Worner (Duncannon, Pa.), going 11.180 seconds at 104.65 mph that was .020 over his dial. Worner and his ’90 Camaro was .018 over, but Walleigh made it up with a slightly better reaction time. That reaction time also gave Walleigh a bye in the semifinals.

His run of 11.109 at 109.69 in a ’70 AMX was good enough to beat Kevin Fogerty (Chalfont, Pa.) in the final, as he was .019 over his dial in. Reaction time made a difference as Walleigh launched in just .048 and Fogerty was .071. Fogerty was .015 over his dial, but that was wiped out.
