Raser gets double as season ends
Dave Raser saved his best for last at Maple Grove Raceway Saturday.
The competitor from Oxford, Pa., won two of the six classes contested in the Turkey Trots E.T. bracket race that completed The Grove’s 2013 season. Raser won Pro and Street eliminators in his 1984 Ford station wagon.
Winners received a $25 grocery gift card to use toward Thanksgiving dinner in addition to prizes based on a standard Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail purse.
Raser won the Pro race over Gary Fitzgerald (Mountville, Pa.) with a pass of 13.191 seconds at 96.91 mph that was .021 over his dial-in. Fitzgerald and his ’88 Mustang was .053 over.
In Street, Raser clinched the title when Phil Williams (Mohrsville, Pa.) and his ’71 Dart fouled at the starting line. It would’ve been tough for Williams anyway as he broke out by .038 seconds and Raser was .037 over his dial.
Richard Fox (King of Prussia, Pa.) also put together a tough-to-beat run in the final against Steve Martel (Schaefferstown, Pa.). Driving a ’57 Belair, Fox had a .009 reaction time and ran 9.012 at 148.48 that was .002 over his dial. Martel and his ’08 Jon Little racecar broke out by .02.
Bruce Gockley (Mohnton, Pa.) won Top Bike on an ’08 Hayabusa as runner-up Von Jones (Pennsauken, N.J.) broke out. Gockley was .062 over, running 9.182 at 150.85.
Ranae Nyce (East Greenville, Pa.) had a good day in Jr. Dragster. She started eliminations with a perfect pass – a .000 reaction time and a 7.900 run on a 7.90 dial. On the final run, she had a little bit of luck as she and runner-up Kyle Robb (Denver, Pa.) both left the start early. However, Robb’s junior dragster left earlier and the race was awarded to Nyce.
In Trophy, Leanne Toller (New Castle, Del.) won her first-ever race. Driving an ’02 Camaro, she beat Carmen Koser (Sinking Spring, Pa.) with a pass of 13.319 at 103.06.
