Jr. Dragsters are up to the Challenge
Maple Grove Raceway had an influx of Jr. Dragsters on Sunday for its annual Jr. Dragster Challenge. The young racers were split into age groups and had the chance to compete for a miniature Wally Parks Trophy.
A non-points E.T. Bracket Race was also held.
Results from the Jr. Dragster Challenge finals:
8-9 year-olds: James Paylor (North East, Md.) ran 13.435 seconds at 45.78 mph that was .002 over his dial in to beat Katelyn Kershner (New Tripoli, Pa.).
10-11: Owen Roth (Danielsville, Pa.) was the winner when Amber Bell (Hershey, Pa.) fouled at the start.
12-13: Richie Rice (Fallsington, Pa.) ran 9.051 at 70.73 that was .071 his dial. He had a .047 advantage with the reaction time, which was important because runner-up Hollie Ray-Bausher (Shillington, Pa.) was .063 over her dial.
14-15: Maple Grove season champion Vincent Branca (Norristown, Pa.) used a great reaction time – .007 – to get the jump on runner-up Deja Brown (York, Pa.). He then followed through with a 7.958 at 77.80 that was .058 over.
16-17: Emily Zartman (Pottstown, Pa.) was .042 over, going 7.962 at 79.89 that gave her the nod over Jessie Rothenberger (Glenmoore, Pa.).
Meanwhile, there were a couple of repeat winners in the E.T. Bracket race that featured racers from the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail that wrapped up its points season on Saturday.
Saturday’s race, the 17th and final one on the schedule, was stopped in the first round of eliminations due to rain.
