Peter Gallen and the Poverty Stricken Nostalgia Fuel Funny Car has had plenty of success at Maple Grove Raceway over the years.

A 1977 Monza, Poverty Stricken has won Funny Car races at the Geezers Reunion at The Grove in the past with the last win coming in 2011. Needless to say, Gallen and Poverty Stricken will be on hand when the Geezers returns the weekend of Aug. 2 as part of the Auto-Plus Cavalcade of Funny Cars.

For those of you who can’t wait until the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals in October to get a whiff of nitro, here’s your chance! Qualifying for the Mickey Thompson Tire AA/FC Challenge will be Friday night, Aug. 2, with two rounds. It’s also a good, old-fashioned Fox Hunt that evening with all women admitted free.

The eliminations will be Saturday evening, Aug. 3, with the big show starting at 6 p.m. sharp.

From Broomall, Pa., Gallen considers Maple Grove to be his home track and he brings a large following of family and friends whenever he comes to The Grove. Last year, during the 50th Anniversary Spectacular, Chad Head came in and took the championship, so Gallen would love nothing more than to reclaim his title in a friendly atmosphere.

Who will be challenging Poverty Stricken? Stay tuned for more profiles!
