Anderson making move in Pro
Andy Anderson might just be ready to challenge Brock Moshier in the Ciccarone Race Products Pro E.T. Class. The only question is if the York, Pa. racer has enough time to catch him.
Anderson and his 1971 Dart won Sunday’s Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail event at Maple Grove Raceway, his second trip to PPC Lubricants Victory Lane in 2013.
In the final, he beat Brian Hine (Birdsboro, Pa.) with a pass of 10.011 seconds at 125.46 mph that was .011 over his dial in, while Hine broke out by .03. Anderson had a tough assignment in the semifinals against Paul Thimm Jr. (Mohnton, Pa.) and prevailed when Thimm broke out. Anderson kept it close by going .014 over his dial. Anderson also cut it close in the quarters against Jeremy Kleinfelter (Newmanstown, Pa.), going .010 over.
Hine beat David Sciarretta (Honey Brook, Pa.) in the semis by using a great reaction time and going .002 over, and advanced from the quarters when Jeneane Cloer (Telford, Pa.) fouled.
David Batchelor (Lebanon, Pa.) won his first race of the season in Goldrush Trailers Super. In a ’95 S&W Dragster, he used a .001 reaction time and raced past Scott Lorish (Center Valley, Pa.) with a pass of 7.654 at 174.12 mph.
Batchelor had a bye in the semifinals and beat Rick Terkowski (Gilbertsville, Pa.) in the quarters, overcoming a .001 start by Terkowski in a double-breakout. Lorish advanced with wins over Brian Bensinger (West Reading, Pa.) and Jake Grater (Perkiomenville, Pa.), the latter with a great reaction time.
In P.C. Richard & Son Street, David Sciarretta (Honey Brook, Pa.) and his ’70 Pontiac won the race with a final pass of 11.801 at 107.28 that was .051 over his dial-in. Runner-up Dawn Helman (Mohnton, Pa.) was .059 over with a slower reaction time.
Sciarretta beat Brittany Heffelfinger (Wernersville, Pa.) in the quarters, surviving a double-breakout and then advanced to the final when Adam Werner (Reading, Pa.) fouled. Helman also got past a double-breakout in the quarters against Paul Werner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and then beat Mike Tomaszewski (Reading, Pa.0 in the semis.
Finally making it Victory Lane this season was Danny Boyer (York, Pa.) in Ray’s Yamaha Top Bike. Boyer and his ’72 H-2 has three runner-up finishes this season, but he followed through this time around, beating Joe Stuebner (Hamburg, Pa.) with a run of 10.203 at 112.42 that was .013 over his dial.
Boyer had a single in the semis and beat Cory Stuebner in the quarters. Beating Cory Stuebner was probably very satisfying as Boyer is 0-3 against him in finals this season. Joe Stuebner beat Austin Youndt (Stevens, Pa.) in the quarters and Theresa Senft (Spring Grove, Pa.) in the semis.
Carrie Whitman (York, Pa.) took her second Junior Dragster win of the season. She beat points leader Vincent Branca (Norristown, Pa.) in the final with a pass of 7.905 at 81.54 that was .005 over the dial.
Whitman and her ’09 Mike Bos junior dragster advanced to the final when Elizabeth Pyles (East Prospect, Pa.) fouled in the semis. She beat Chase Ream (Narvon, Pa.) in the quarters. Branca got past Hollie Ray-Bausher (Shillington, Pa.) in the quarters and Mark Price Jr. (Collegeville, Pa.) in the semis.
Amy Ketterer (Sellersville, Pa.) won Trophy, beating Kelsey Hershey (Spring Grove, Pa.) in the finals with a pass of 13.960 at 96.22.
The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Drag Racing Association also raced Sunday with Art Hand (Salford, Pa.) picking up the win in a ’63 Falcon when Bob English (Milton, Pa.) broke in the final.
The Boninfante B1 Index Series had its final race of the season. Brian Grinnell (Royersford, Pa.) took the 10.0 Index with a pass of 10.068 at 127.50 in a ’79 Fairmont Wagon to beat Mo Bolduc (Feasterville, Pa.). In the 11.50 class, Steve Gurvick (Wilmington, Del.) and his ’85 Mustang beat Jennifer Kershner (New Tripoli, Pa.) with a run of 11.541 at 114.94.
