Maple Grove Raceway will roar to life for the 2014 season on Saturday morning, April 12, with grudge racing and a Test ‘n’ Tune session.
The grudge racing program is informal and allows novices to try their hand at the sport and veterans to hone their skills. Grudge racing is open to street-legal vehicles and race cars arriving at the drag strip on trailers. Racers may choose their opponents or compete against each other in random pairings.
Local E.T. bracket racers will make good use of the Test ‘n’ Tune session in preparation for the first points race of the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail on Saturday, April 26.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. and racing will begin at 10 a.m. The staging lanes will close at 3:30 p.m. and racing will conclude at 4 p.m.
Race entry is $20 for street-driven cars and $25 for trailered race cars. Adult spectator admission is $10 and kids 12 and under are free.
The NHRA announced it has changed the 12.90 minimum dial-in to 11.90 for the 8-9 year olds in the NHRA Summit Jr Drag Racing League, effective immediately.
“We have been evaluating the NHRA Summit Jr Drag Racing League and found this change was necessary to address the evaluation of the Jr Dragsters”, said Josh Peterson, Vice President of Racing Administration. “This is the second change we have made to the Jr Drag Racing League, last year we accepted a cost effective engine into the series, the Briggs and Stratton 206 to address rising costs in the league.
Amendments to the 2014 NHRA Jr Drag Racing League rulebook can be found on NHRARacer.com and NHRA’s Jr Dragster website.

Event Services Director Tony Elmo has retired from Maple Grove Raceway after 22 years and John Clair has been named as his replacement. Clair has been working at MGR for 30 years and will report directly to Vice President and General Manager Lex Dudas.
“We’re going to miss Tony,” Dudas said. “He put his heart and soul into Maple Grove Raceway and was not only a great team member, but I was proud to call him a friend. We wish him the best in his retirement. He will still be with us in a consulting role.”
“I worked at Maple Grove Raceway for 22 years,” Elmo recalled. “I started at the gates, then worked my way up. In 2001 I was named Event Services Director.
“My best memories of the track were working with Lex Dudas in general. Lex taught me a lot. Last year was one of our best (NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series) national events and 2008 was really good too – no rain and a huge crowd. Our local racers really support the track. I will miss it.” More >
